Distillation of Horsemanship Concepts

The concepts that I see that are universal to good horsemanship can be distilled down to the following basic ideas:
  • It's the release that teaches
  • Make the right thing easy and the wrong thing difficult
  • Isolate, separate, recombine
  • The seven keys to success
  • The nine principles of horsemanship
  • The horse has a mental, emotional, and physical system and these correlate with respect, impulsion, and flexion
  • Balance feels good
  • Physical training exercises can be broken down to flexibility, mobility and collectibility
  • Being able to see where the horse is and make adjustments on the fly to where you want the horse to be.
I will go into each of these concepts in depth in later posts.
